Important Reminders
- SNACKS: students are responsible for bringing their own snack each day. I do not do a snack calendar. Remember, no candy and the snacks must be peanut free!
- TIGER Binder: This year your child will have a TIGER (Today I've Got Everything Ready) Binder that will come home every night. This binder is an organizational tool designed to help students stay organized, check behavior and to allow parents the opportunity to be involved with the daily happenings in the classroom. Please have your child bring his/her binder back to school each day. Your child will write each day in his/her Daily Reflection Journal (DRJ.) This is a notebook where you can write back a short note to your child. The kids write in their DRJ the last 10 min of each day. It is a great way for you to see what is going on in the classroom, how your child's day was (behavior) and also a wonderful way for you to monitor your child's writing.
- Student Absent: If your child is going to be gone or leaving early please send an email to myself in advance or day of to Bev in the office before 2 pm. If we have not heard from you we will send your child home as planned.
- Water Bottle: Water bottles are welcomed in 3K. Your child will have his/her water bottle to be filled up before morning announcements and it can then be filled up for the second time after lunch. I encourage drinking water but don't want extra bathroom breaks to disrupt our learning. Your child's water bottle will be sent home every Friday so it can be washed and sent back to school on the following Monday.
- Box Tops: Save your Box Tops and send to school with your child.
- Tiger Tuesday: Please check the Tiger Tuesday Shutterfly website that is emailed out each Tuesday for important information, upcoming dates, and notes.
- Money: When you send money with your child to school for lunch money, book orders, field trips, etc, please make sure that you send it in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s name, what the money is for, and the amount on the front. Properly labeling will ensure the money gets exactly where it needs to be. Please try and send exact change if you send cash.

I will be using remind as a way to send pictures thought the year. Remind is a free, safe, and simple messaging tool that helps teachers share important updates and reminders with students & parents. Subscribe by text, email or using the Remind app. All personal information is kept private. Teachers will never see your phone number, nor will you see theirs.

Think Central
All of our reading tests will be taken weekly, usually on Fridays, online using the iPads. These tests will include a comprehension test, vocabulary test, and a grammar test over the skills and story we have read that week. Sometimes, a phonics test will be given as well going over a skill we have studied throughout the week. You as parents can log in as your child to the Think Central website and check their scores. This will be the only way to see how they are doing on these tests. Our classroom textbook is also online so rereading the story at home is an option. Go to:

How to help your child become an EXCELLENT reader!
Set aside a regular time to read to your children every day.
Studies show that regularly reading out loud to children will produce significant gains in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and the decoding of words. Whether your children are preschoolers or preteens, it will increase their desire to read independently.
Surround your children with reading material.
Children with a large array of reading materials in their homes score higher on standardized tests. Tempt your kids to read by having a large supply of appealing books and magazines at their reading level. Put the reading materials in cars, bathrooms, bedrooms, family rooms, and even by the TV.
Have a family reading time.
Establish a daily 15 to 30 minute time when everyone in the family reads together silently. Seeing you read will inspire your children to read. Just 15 minutes of daily practice is sufficient to increase their reading fluency.
Encourage a wide variety of reading activities.
Make reading an integral part of your children's lives. Have them read menus, roadside signs, game directions, weather reports, movie time listings, and other practical everyday information. Also, make sure they always have something to read in their spare time when they could be waiting for appointments or riding in a car.
Develop the library habit.
Entice your children to read more by taking them to the library every few weeks to get new reading materials. The library also offers reading programs for children of all ages that may appeal to your children and further increase their interest in reading.

To help your children improve their reading, use textbooks, computer programs, books-on-tape, and other materials available in stores. Games are especially good choices because they let children have fun as they work on their skills.
